The Three P’s

I am often asked of new and experienced note professionals how I stay motivated and keep my Note Business going, surviving and thriving.  In reality there is no one thing I can tell you that helps keep me motivated but most likely a combination of things of which I will share three with you in this article.  As many of you know I have been a huge fan and follower of Napoleon Hill and his book Think and Grow Rich from the beginning of my career in the Note Business and it has been a motivating cornerstone for me and here is one of my favorite quotes of his:

Patience, Persistence and Perspiration is a powerful combination in staying motivated, marketing the note business and for ultimate long term success.  As has been stated in works ranging from the Shakespeare to the Beatles, there is a time for every purpose. Sometimes the best course is to persist and push through the obstacle with some perspiration (hard work) and sometimes the best course is to apply a little dose of patience.

Be persistent in setting goals for your note business marketing plan.  Better yet, make your goals intentions. How many responses will you generate through your marketing efforts and how many of these will turn into legitimate note transaction opportunities?  How many unique visitors will you have at your website?  The more specific the intention is the more likely you are to reach it.

Be persistent in doing something every day to move your marketing plan forward.  You can always do a bit more to optimize your website, create more content, tighten your message, or figure out how to better add value to the note buying process.

Be persistent in learning the new skills necessary to succeed in a changing Note Business and marketing world.  As I mentioned in a previous article some of the “old school” methods still work amazingly well even with the internet.  However, since the web is such a powerful awareness and lead generation tool, anything you can learn about how it works is helpful.

Be persistent in your social media initiatives. Write that blog post, update your LinkedIn, or send some tweets, even when you don’t feel like it.  Results in social networking don’t usually come quickly, but they will come if you stay the course.

There is much more to be persistent about but that should give you a good idea of the perspiration it will take to be persistent.  What about patience?

Be patient in knowing that much of what you do will NOT have immediate impact. For example, it takes some time to draw up a solid marketing plan and put it into action that will crank out good results month-after-month.

Be patient in sticking with your marketing message.  It may feel like it is old and stale to you but that is because you are exposed to it daily.  You need to practice consistency and repetition until your prospects are very familiar with your message.

Be patient in letting note holders contact you a pace they deem appropriate, usually waiting till they need money yesterday.  You can cut your effective response cycle dramatically by having a great website full of useful information, a note submission form and by presenting all the information necessary to help them make the right decision (selling their note to you of course).  But there are times when pushing too hard, too quickly, will push would-be note sellers away.

Be patient with note holders’ impatience, especially when they demand more than you are able to deliver, more quickly than is feasible.

Although vastly different attributes, patience and persistence combined with perspiration are definitely a winning combination for staying motivated, marketing the note business and ultimate long term success.  Whatever you do, remember, success demands action! Keep on marketing, and being persistent, it’s going to work! TWITA! (That’s What I’m Talking About!) J
